Tree loss was the main topic of discussion on Wednesday for a branch of the long term recovery task force.  The group trying to determine how best to replant trees in the area.

The Natural and Cultural Resources branch of the task force focusing on the environmental issues the hurricane brought to the area.

At the meeting, FEMA representatives, local leaders and residents voiced their ideas and concerns, discussing the best path in getting trees planted and conserved in the area.

Organizers say, dialogue like this is what’s going to keep the area improving.

“How we do replant the tree canopies in our communities and making sure when we do that, it is done well so that the trees survive but also that they’re placed in way that trees can continue to grow over the next 30, 40, 50 years,” said Dan Rowe, President/ CEO of the Tourist Development Council.

The next meeting of this particular branch will be in March.
