A big change coming to Panama City Beach after Mayor Mike Thomas says he’s seen distasteful behavior.
During Thursday morning’s City Council meeting, the mayor said he’s noticed extremely loud music, people spilling out of golf carts and other problems the city has tried to eliminate.
A big area of concern is through Pier Park.
On Thursday, the council approved the temporary closing of Pier Park drive between Front Beach Road and L.C. Hilton Jr. Drive or the roundabout in front of the Sky Wheel.
Thomas says he hopes this will help lessen traffic and non-family friendly activity in the area.
“Pier Park itself, the organization was uncomfortable with things that were going on in the road there, so we have agreed to close the road to allow them to keep that traffic in that rude behavior and playground away from some people,“ said Mayor Thomas.
The 24-hour closing will take effect March 29th at midnight and will continue until April 22, 2019.
