A man accused of killing a former Bay County Sheriff’s Office Deputy and business owner appeared in court Friday.
The case dates back to 2014 when Derrick Thompson allegedly shot and killed Allen Johnson at his home.
According to the police report, Thompson robbed the home of Johnson, taking prescription drugs and large sums of money before shooting him in the head.
On Friday, Thompson’s attorneys argued in court to rule out the death penalty.
Thompson was previously found guilty in Santa Rosa County for the murder of two residents. Thompson allegedly shot the two in Santa Rosa County just two days before shooting Johnson.
The court is scheduled to meet again for jury selection at the end of the month.
