VERNON, Fla. - Vernon High School is expected to hire Gerald Tranquille as their new Athletic Director and Head Football Coach.
He will be replacing Willie Spears, who left in February for a job in Alabama.
Tranquille is familiar with the area – he attended Liberty County High school where he was a four-sport star, and played baseball at Chipola College.
He has experience coaching multiple sports – baseball at Blountstown and most recently basketball at Taylor County High School in Georgia.
Vernon principal Brian Riviere says the school made the hire because of Tranquille's ability to connect with the students, his connection to the area, and his desire to make a long term commitment to Vernon, who's had five different athletic director's since 2009.
The school has not yet chosen a date to officially introduce him.
Tranquille will work out his notice at Taylor County High School before moving south to get ready for spring practice, which starts on April 24th.
