Scholar Athlete of the Week - Audri Smaistrla

PANAMA CITY, Fla. - This week's Scholar Athlete of the Week sponsored by Bill Cramer Chevrolet is Rutherford's Audri Smaistrla!

"I go to Gulf Coast. I go to Haney. I go here. I'm president of S2S. I'm in RSGA. I'm captain of weightlifting, captain of swim, and I'm a varsity cheerleader," said Audri.

Audri has a tight schedule, but the Rutherford senior makes it look easy.

"Believe it or not, it's really easy to balance all of it," said Audri.

Audri is in her 3rd year weightlifting - a sport she was inspired to pick up by her older sister.

"My sister actually did weightlifting, and it kind of drew me in. She went to State her junior and senior year, and I was like, 'Oh! I wanna do that!'" said Audri.

Audri is a 2-sport captain who doesn't shy away from her leadership role.

"It's like having little sisters - a whole bunch of little sisters. You get to help them and teach them. You know that they're not gonna have the wrong form because you're helping them. They're not gonna get hurt now or in the future because you're helping them get the right form down," said Audri.

Audri plans on enlisting in the military, doing 4 years of college, then joining as an officer in hopes of working in cyber security.

"I'm actually currently enrolled at Haney under their computer program. It's really helped me a lot becuase now I understand a lot more than I did last year with computers and everything," said Audri.

Audri says she gets her "can do" attitude from her mom.

"My dad was military so my mom has been there for me no matter what. Just seeing how strong she is without my dad there. We've had plumbing issues, and my mom was up on the roof in the middle of December fixing them," said Audri.

"She's a person who has a spirit of excellence. Whatever does, she tries to do to the best of her ability. She excels at everything. As you see right now, she's doing multiple things, but she's doing well at multiple things also," said Rutherford Girls Weightlifting Coach Dashoan Olds.
