Bay High Head Coach Jimmy Longerbeam is on his way out, turning in his resignation papers Tuesday morning, and will be leaving the program after five years at the end of the month to take another coaching job in Virginia.

Bay High Athletic Director Vern Barth says coach Longerbeam is going to Alexandria, Virginia to coach at T.C. Williams High School, the school made famous by the movie "Remember the Titans”.

Longerbeam has family in Alexandria, and is moving there to be closer to them.

The players were notified of his departure earlier this morning before news broke..

Longerbeam led the Tornadoes to a 24-28 record in five seasons, highlighted by the team making the playoffs for the first time in 12 year in 2015 after an 8-3 record.

Vern Barth says the focus now is gathering a committee and interviewing several candidates, looking for a replacement that fits the culture of bay high football.

"We've really enjoyed having him here,” Barth says, “He's done a great job with our kids. He's taught them how to buy into a program, he's also taught them how to become great young men."
