OCALA, Fla. - During halftime of the second Women's Semifinal game in Ocala at the JUCO State Basketball Tournament on Friday, Bay High and Gulf Coast legend Tashia Morehead was inducted into the FCSAA Women's Basketball Hall of Fame.
In her two years at Gulf Coast, the Commodores went 70-1, with Morehead averaging 25 points and 10 rebounds in her sophomore year.
Morehead is most well known for what may be the best championship performance in JUCO history, where she out scored the opponent, Western Nebraska, 46-42 by herself. The Commodores went on to win 81-42 and claim their first national title in 2003.
Morehead went on to play for the Florida Gators and was drafted into the WNBA.
She says she's honored to be inducted into the Hall and reflects on her time at Gulf Coast.
"Man, listen, it's a blessing. It's unreal right now. It really hasn't hit me yet, but it's a blessing, and We had a good team. We were like a sisterhood there. Coach Scovel kind of molded us into the players and the people that we are today. Just to get that first win, and to go undefeated, which no team has done yet. Man, it's cool, it's cool," said Morehead.
