Three local athletes signed their college scholarships Thursday afternoon.
First at Arnold was Danielle Lee and Cameron Fish.
Lee signed a softball scholarship to Valdosta State University. She's been a huge part of the Marlins success the last couple seasons, helping lead them to a State Title berth in 2016 and winning last year's 6A Offensive Player of the Year Award.
Cameron Fish signed a golf scholarship with Belmont University. Fish has been fantastic for Arnold in her career, recently pacing the Marlins in the 2A State Tournament, where she led all local golfers with a 6th place finish.
Both athletes explain what went through their mind as they signed the dotted line.
"I was definitely nervous,” Lee says, “Just glad that it's over, honestly. I've been waiting for this. I think I committed in July, so I'm just really excited. I'm glad I did it early, so I didn't have to wait."
"It feels amazing,” Fish explains, “Because this has been an 11-year process, you know? So it feels great to finally come to my dream and be able to sign today, so it's amazing."
Also, out at Wewahitchka, star softball pitcher Brianna Bailey signed with Florida Gulf Coast University.
Bailey has been the corner stone of the Gators’ last couple Final Four runs.
Last season she was named the Class 1A Pitcher of the Year after striking out 237 batters with just a 1.3 ERA.
In her career, dating back to 7th grade, Bailey has struck out 679 batters – and she's still got her senior season to play.
She talks about what made her want to commit to Florida Gulf Coast.
"The coach showed a lot of interest in how much he really liked me, and that made me feel good, because he showed interest, and came to me, and talked to me first and stuff like that,” Bailey says, “It feels good to sign because all your hard work has finally paid off, and having all your friends and family around just feels right."
