PORT ST. JOE, Fla. - Up next on 21 Teams in 21 Days is the Port St. Joe Sharks, a team trying to reclaim their spot among the top of class 1A.
The Sharks are less than three years removed from a state championship, but were one-and-done in the playoffs last year.
They were young last season, but now are loaded with upperclassmen – 9 seniors and 19 juniors.
Two quarterbacks are battling right now for snaps. Senior Jasmin Thomas has been taking the majority of the snaps while junior Josh Butts in limited with a shoulder injury, but coach expects the competition to extend into the season.
Look out for Kendre Gant, 6’3’’ wide receiver. On defense watch for the ends, Russell Russ and Kelvin Griffin, who will be giving quarterbacks nightmares.
We keep mentioning it, but the new playoff points system affects every team in Class 1A.
The more wins, the better chance of making the postseason, and coach John Palmer explains his teams mindset coming into the season.
"Improve every day. We're taking every day like it's your last. We just want to improve. Hopefully at the end of each week that's enough to win the game, and hopefully at the end of the season it's enough to get to the playoffs. Then hopefully at the end of the playoffs it's enough to be where we want to be."
