BRISTOL, Fla. - Only a handful teams remain for our 21 Teams in 21 Days. Next we cross over time zones and head to Bristol, where the Liberty County Bulldogs are hoping for a strong 2017.
Another team in our area with a new head coach. Derek Causseaux is taking over and trying to bring energy to a program that went 2-7 last season.
The numbers are now there – the Bulldogs will have close to 40 players when the season starts, 8 of which are returning seniors.
Blake Tharpe is a senior who's taking over at quarterback and safety this season after starting at middle linebacker last year.
He'll be handing the ball off to another senior, Duncan Hosford, who also plays outside linebacker.
6’6’’ senior Marlon Black will man both the offensive and defensive line.
The Bulldogs are out this season to prove that their 2-7 record from last year was a fluke. It is the teams only losing season since 2008.
Coach Causseaux, besides energy and enthusiasm, is trying to also bring something else to the program.
"Our motto for this year is "Be the Change",” he says, “We actually today took it into the school and asked the whole student body to come on board with us and be the change. But we're asking the kids to dig deep inside and be who they are and be the change they want to see this year on the football field and off the field. They're really responding and really starting to be that change and we want to see the positive change in these kids."
Tomorrow on 21 Teams in 21 Days, we look at the Cottondale Hornets.
