BLOUNTSTOWN, Fla. - We kick off week three of 21 Teams in 21 Days with one of last year's best teams: the Blountstown Tigers.
They made it farther than any local team last season. In fact, they were one point away from a berth into the 1A State Championship game – a heartbreaking 20-19 loss to Baker in the semifinal ended their season.
This year they're looking to finish the job, and should have a very strong team once again.
15 seniors return, and each of them have all played with the varsity team since they were freshman.
They'll be starting a new quarterback with Trent Peacock taking over for Bryson Horne. He’s is a lucky guy with all the weapons he'll have at his disposal.
The Tigers have been built on explosive plays, and not many come more explosive than K.K. Godwin, their Swiss-army-knife coming back for his senior season, along with Jamal Howard, Denzel Washington, and Jarkeavis Bess.
Not just seniors in the back end, but up front Nathan Hunter, Cody Barfield, and Emmanuel Holiday will be opening up holes for them.
The strength of their defense will be the d-line, a group that can get after the quarterback.
The Tigers look like a team to beat in 1A on paper, but that's not where games are won, and Coach Greg Jordan has his guys focusing on one thing.
"Just finish – One word just says it all,” Coach Jordan says, “We were close last year and we just want to finish this year. That's kind of our one-word slogan. They know what it means and the significance of it, and they've embraced it."
Tomorrow on 21 Teams in 21 Days we take a look at the Freeport Bulldogs.
