WALTON COUNTY, Fla -
This hasn't exactly been a great year for U.S. law enforcement in general, with accusations of brutality and officers being ambushed, so you can imagine the warmth they must feel when something like this happens.
"Billy" called the Walton County Sheriff's Office 9-1-1 Communications Center yesterday afternoon and invited the staff and deputies to thanksgiving dinner with his family. Communications officers say the call melted their hearts.
They couldn't take "Billy" up on his offer but deputies Damon Byrd and Aaron Ethridge did drop by "Billy's" home, gave him a sheriff's badge and let him sit in a patrol car.
While they don't encourage this type of use of the 9-1-1 system, Sheriff's officials say they were honored by "Billy's" invitation.
