Florida Highway Patrol troopers are investigating a single car wreck in Holmes County that killed a teen driver and injured his passenger.

Around 5:00 a.m. Saturday, Joseph Johnson, 19, of Westville was driving a 2007 Ford Mustang on C.R. 185. Troopers say Johnson drove off the highway near Coursey Rd. and hit a dirt embankment, which caused the car to roll over several times.

Troopers said Johnson nor his passenger Brandon Schmidt, 21, of Defuniak Springs were wearing seatbelts at the time and were thrown out of the car as it turned over.

Johnson was taken to Wiregrass Medical in Alabama where he later died.

Schmidt is currently listed in critical condition at Southeast Alabama Medical in Dothan, AL.
