Chipley, Fla. - A Washington County woman is behind bars after reporting to authorities she shot her husband during an argument.
Deputies wrote in a news release that 46-year-old Peggy McAteer was arguing with her husband, 60-year-old Randy McAteer, about an alleged affair when she shot him.
Peggy McAteer then called 911, confessed to the crime and asked for help. McAteer later told investigators that the couple had been arguing about the affair most of the day when she entered the master bedroom closet, retrieved a .44 caliber handgun and fired twice, shooting Randy McAteer once in the upper leg.
Randy McAteer was immediately transported to an area hospital for treatment.
Peggy McAteer is charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. She is being held on a $100,000 bond.
