CHIPLEY, Fla. - The board of county commissioners for Washington County met for a special meeting Monday afternoon. The meeting was held to sign a contract resolution with Florida Department of Economic Opportunity to move forward with the location of a water and sewer project south of interstate ten.
Washington county has been working on this project for more than two years now.
"The scope of the project will be to put water and sewer from the south side of I-10 to Douglas Ferry Road in Washington County," said Tray Hawkins, Chairman.
The special meeting was called to give Chairman Hawkins, authorization to sign the contract so it can be sent and reviewed by Governor Scott. The project is an interlocal agreement between, Washington and Holmes counties as well as the city of Bonifay.
"Washington, Holmes and the city of Bonifay will benefit from the project," said Hawkins.
Hawkins said the end goal for the project is to create jobs for the area.
"Our responsibility is for it to make it the easiest as it possibly can be for a developer to come into our county and here in Washington county we want the local business leaders to know we're open for business," said Hawkins.
Now that the contract has been signed by the appointed signee for the project, it will have to wait for the approval of governor Scott.
