Walton Co. Teachers' E.P.I.C. Training Day

Freeport, Fla. - Walton County School District teachers took a field trip Thursday, as they ready for the classroom. The event is just the beginning of a bigger goal.

More than 750 teachers are starting their school year off with an E.P.I.C. day, not too far from home. E.P.I.C., which stands for Excellence, Professionalism, Innovation and Collaboration, was not only the theme of the event, but it's also the official Walton County goal for the upcoming school year.

"E.P.I.C. is a day that we are going to empower teachers. This is for teachers, by teachers. We have 60 presenters from our County, teachers that are effective in the classroom. That have proven data and skills, that they can share with other professional educators to make sure that we're effective the next 180 days," said Superintendent Russell Hughes, Walton County School District.

To kick off the E.P.I.C training day, Walton County School District brought in a special guest to help motivate. Michael Bonner, recently featured on Ellen Degeneres, shared his unique claim to fame, in hopes he would inspire teachers to be creative and go above and beyond.

"And, I was basically explaining to teachers, even though I was on National T.V. this school year doing amazing things, the year prior I wanted to quit. So, I know what they deal with every day inside the classroom," explained Michael Bonner, Key Note Speaker, Teacher in Greenville, North Carolina.

Superintendent Huges says, his hope for the teacher's E.P.I.C. day is to inspire them to inspire their classes and to show the power of unity.

"I am so excited that we are coming together as a district. We're a very broad district from the north and the farm land, all the way to the end where the beaches are and it's just nice to be able to come together," said Lynne Martin, Walton High School, English Teacher.

Walton County schools begin on August 10th.

E.P.I.C. training day kicks off Walton County teachers' year and pushes the new motto of 'The Walton County Way' of excellence, professional ism, innovation and collaboration.
