FREEPORT, Fla - Walton County officials are working with the Florida Department of Environmental Protection to close the old Coyote Landfill in Freeport.
The facility, which is located west of Freeport on Highway 20, has been abandoned for several years. After visiting the property, the FDEP determined it was time conduct a proper closure procedure. But before they could do that, they had to create an access road on the far western end of the site because the front portion of the property had been sold to a different owner. Now, the county has started to work on closing the property.
The process is expected to be complete sometime in early summer of this year.
