Walton County is no stranger when it comes to dealing with traffic issues along 30A. But one intersection that has remained a problem for almost a decade is the three-way stop at County Road 395 and 30A.
"As you know, we've been looking at stuff here for many years," said Chance Powell with Public Works.
On Tuesday, commissioners were presented with three options to rethink the intersection. Of the biggest concern was moving the sidewalk from the north side of 30A to the south side - where it would overlap with more than a dozen driveways.
"It's the densest amount or residential structures that we have along 30A," said Jim Martelli.
Added Jane Solomon, "Every year, we're having one life safety issue after another."
Residents argued the foot traffic would cause actual traffic issues as well.
"With 21 families being impacted right away, this is the better solution at this time," said Commissioner Bill Imfeld.
The Board voted to go with option three, keeping the sidewalk to the north.
It also include adding turn lanes in all three directions and a median on CR 395.
"Option 3 doesn't preclude us from in the future putting it on the south side," said Commissioner Cindy Meadows.
The county says the project still needs to go out for bidding. Best case scenario, they're hoping to begin construction in the off season towards the end of this year.
