PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. - Panama City Beach Police have arrested nine people after a shooting on Sunday in the parking lot between Burger King and Ocean Towers off of Front Beach Road.
20 year old Damarcus Ingram is facing three counts of attempted murder. They say Ingram is the one that fired all three shots at the victims. Also in custody are eight other people, all arrested on various counts including resisting without violence and possession of drugs.
Witnesses say the victims and suspects were having an argument with four males in a gold car, which led to the shooting.
Police say after firing shots, the suspects headed eastbound on Front Beach Road before crashing into a pole outside of Coyote Ugly.
Authorities said the three victims sustained non life-threatening injuries and were rushed to a local hospital.
Panama City Beach Police along with deputies with the Bay County Sheriff's Office were able to arrest the suspects half a mile from the scene.
Authorities say all nine suspects and the victims are from the Atlanta-Metro area.
Panama City Beach Police responded to shots fired around 4:17pm on Sunday. The shooting took place in the parking lot between Burger King and Ocean Towers off of Front Beach Road.
There were three victims - two males and one female. They are all currently being treated at a local hospital.
"Officers arrived on scene and found 3 victims that were shot - nothing life threatening at this time from what we're getting from the hospital. We had to load them up and get them to the hospital and taken care of with first aid," said Panama City Beach Police Chief Drew Whitman.
Kayc Smith is visiting the panhandle from Georgia. She was on scene just minutes after the shooting took place.
"We got here and there were two people laying on the ground over here. They couldn't walk. I guess they were shot in the leg or something, and, then, one guy was over here. He had a shot through his hip. You could see him. He was getting bandaged up," said Smith.
The suspects allegedly drove by the victims, fired shots, and headed eastbound on Front Beach Road before crashing into a pole outside of Coyote Ugly Saloon.
"We got a good description of the vehicle leaving the scene. We were able to apprehend the four suspects in an Impala about half a mile from here," said Chief Whitman.
Chief Whitman believes that this was not a random act.
"Our understanding right now is that the victims and the suspects are all from the Atlanta metro area so I'm sure they probably know each other from their hometown," said Chief Whitman.
