Two People Dead, Three Injured in Car Crash

BLOUNTSTOWN, Fla. - Florida Highway Patrol is investigating an accident in Calhoun County, that left two people dead and three people injured. It happened around 2 p.m. Friday afternoon in Blountstown.

FHP says 49-year-old Sandra Kidd, of Cleveland, Tennessee, was traveling west on County Road 286, approaching a stop sign at the intersection of State Road 69. Meanwhile, 43-year-old Shirane Smith, of Gainesville, Georgia, was in another vehicle traveling south on State Road 69, approaching the intersection of County Road 286.

Authorities say Kidd failed to stop at the stop sign as she entered the intersection, getting T-boned by Smith's vehicle. The impact of the collision caused Smith's vehicle to travel southwest, before colliding with a fence post in the southwest corner of the intersection. It continued to travel in southwest as it overturned, before coming to final rest, facing north.

The vehicle rotated clockwise as it traveled southwest, coming to final rest in a cotton field, in the southwest corner of the intersection, facing north.

Kidd's left rear collided with a fence and fence post.

Kidd was taken to the hospital in serious condition. Her passenger, 65-year-old Glenda Morris, of Moultrie, Georgia, was pronounced dead on the scene. Smith was taken to the hospital in serious condition and one of her passengers, 67-year-old Karen Brown, of Crandall, Georgia, was pronounced dead on the scene. The other passenger in Smith's vehicle, Catherine Gaskin, of Lowndes, Georgia, was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
