With only a few weeks until Christmas, one Walton County organization is working to make sure hundreds of kids will have a happy holiday. As the Executive Director at the Matrix Community Outreach Center, Candy Nowling also serves as 'head-elf' for the organization's Community Christmas.

"It provides approximately 500 children in our community with Christmas gifts," said Nowling.

Work on the event began back in July, but the physical work is culminating this week as they prepare for the distribution day on December 10th.

"We have people in the community who have adopted some of the children and so they bring the angel gifts in," said Nowling.

Volunteer elves sort through the other gifts to make sure each child gets a gift, then they're stored until the big day.

"The room will be decorated almost like a candy land," said Nowling.

It's the face of the children when they take it all in that makes it worthwhile for Nowling.

"Just to realize that sometimes that kids- not all children are fortunate enough to have the things that sometimes you and I have," said Nowling.

The Community Christmas event will be at the Walton County fairgrounds. The Matrix is still buying gifts, so monetary donations are still helpful. They also need volunteers, so if you want to give your time, be there at 9 a.m.
