Suspect Charged In Shooting Of Vernon High Grad

Chipley, Fla. - Washington County authorities say a Vernon High School graduate is in critical condition after being shot Monday afternoon.

The suspect is 73-year-old Danny Underwood of Chipley.

Washington County Sheriff Kevin Crews says he is not investigating any other suspects.

Authorities say 18-year-old Walter Gage Hallman was with friends practicing targets with a bow and arrow outside of Underwood's drive way on public property.

According to reports, the group got into an argument with Underwood's wife before he starting shooting at the group.

The sheriff says one bullet hit Hallman in the lower back.

"They weren't on Underwood's property.  I mean, there was an altercation, a verbal altercation. We have no reason at this time to believe that the other party that got shot at and shot even had a weapon," the sheriff said.
