DESTIN, Fla. - A man who was shot by Okaloosa Sheriff's Deputies after he allegedly raised a firearm at them was released from the hospital and arrested.
Randy Patton, 30, of Antioch, Tenn. is charged with assault on a law enforcement officer and resisting an officer with violence.
Deputies were searching for Patton he allegedly sent his wife text messages of himself holding a handgun and threatening suicide.
Deputies found him on February 16th in the parking lot of the Days Inn on Highway 98 in Destin, officials wrote in a news release.
"As they approached, Patton came out of his room. He initially complied with their commands, but then reached into the small of his back, removed a handgun, and raised it towards both deputies," officials wrote. "At that time, they fired their agency issued weapons. Patton was hit multiple times."
Deputies later learned that the handgun was, "a pellet pistol that closely resembled a semi-automatic firearm."
After being taken to Fort Walton Beach Medical Center, Patton allegedly told medical staff he was trying to get the deputies to kill him.
