Students at New Horizons Learning Center Spend the Day with Lynn Haven Firefighters

LYNN HAVEN, Fla. - Many New Horizon Learning Center students got an exclusive look into the lives of Lynn Haven firefighters Tuesday.

The Lynn Haven Fire Department hosted New Horizons students and their mentors for a field trip.  Not only did it allow the children to see what firefighters do, but also to honor them for their work. The children alongside some of the school's mentors went on a guided tour of the station led by firefighters.

They let the children try on gear and practice using the hose and discover what a day in their life consists.

"Anytime an adult can get involved in a student's life it makes a huge difference so we invite everybody to come out and be a mentor for one of our kids because it truly does make a difference. If they want to do something in the community that will help a kid, being a mentor is a big part of that," said Principal Wes Smith.

The school has about 50 mentors including many from the Navy and Air Force bases.
But like Smith says, they are always looking for more.
