STEM to SURGE for Science Students

BAY COUNTY, Fl - Students from two area elementary schools went to college on Wednesday. FSU-PC hosted dozens of fifth graders from West Bay and Beach Elementary schools for a program known as "SURGE". Students understanding the research and groundwork of experiments is what SURGE stands for. The children went from room to room, working with scientific equipment including microscopes, rockets, drones and robots. Regional Science Fair Director for Bay District Schools, Katie McCurdy says this may be the best chance for some of these students to get hands on learning in Science. "I love STEM and I love Science, and just to see the kids they are so intrigued and you just see their little minds working and just see their creativity come out" McCurdy said. The program is designed to get fifth graders excited about Science Fair when they enter 6th grade.
