SPD: Suspect Led Police on Three Separate Vehicle Pursuits

SPRINGFIELD, Fla. - A man in a stolen truck led law enforcement officers on three different vehicle pursuits, police said Monday.

Springfield Police say they first encountered 39-year-old Daniel Eric Miles shortly after a shoplifting incident at a local store. Chief Philip Thorne says Miles almost ran over a Springfield officer trying to flee from a nearby apartment complex. Officers pursued Miles but the chase was called off because it was too dangerous, Thorne said.

Officers caught up with Miles two more times until he ultimately ran over spike strips on Highway 231 near North Bear Creek Road.

Miles then ran away from the scene but was caught a short time later in the woods.

Miles is being charged with grand theft auto by Okaloosa County authorities. Springfield police are charging him with aggravated assault and two counts of fleeing and eluding and the Florida Highway Patrol and the Bay County Sheriff's Office also have charges pending.
