SOUTHPORT, Fla. - Investigators made a shocking discovery last week after a Southport child ran away from home.
On Friday, Bay County Sheriff's Investigators searched for 10 hours for a special needs child. The juvenile was found seven miles from his home, barefoot and afraid to return home. Investigators say the child ran away because he was the victim of severe child abuse.
Investigators said the child was beaten repeatedly, locked in his bedroom at night with no access to a restroom and showed up for years at a local school with signs of abuse.
As a result of their investigation, 44-year-old Shawn Watson was charged with child abuse. He is currently being held in the Bay County Jail on a $100,000 bond. Watson is expected back in court on April 24th.
