SkyWheel Coming to Panama City Beach

PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. - A new 200-foot SkyWheel with panoramic views of the Gulf is coming to Pier Park in the Spring of 2018.

Mike Denton, Simon's Marketing and Business Development Director, said it's more than just a ferris wheel.
"It's a year around attraction, there are 30 gondolas and you'll be on the ride for about 10 to 15 minutes and they're climate controlled gondolas and there is even one VIP gondola."

The gondolas will fit six to eight people at a time, with full 360 degree views of the gulf, beach, and Pier Park.

With all of the attraction's features, Tyson Scott, the Building Inspector for the Panama City Beach Building Department said they're making safety the top priority.

"We're going to be looking at the structural components of it too, we'll be looking at all of the footers and stuff that's going to be supporting this large structure," he said. "We're going to be looking at all the electrical, plumbing, mechanical stuff on there as well, and we're going to be looking at the back up generator at the end."

Simon, the company who owns Pier Park, and now the SkyWheel, said they are excited for the new tourism it will bring to the beach.
