Black Friday is becoming just as popular as the Thanksgiving holiday itself, as shoppers even start lining up on turkey day to snag the best deals.
Shoppers were out and about Friday at the Panama City Mall. They said they've had thousands of people walk through their doors between last night and this afternoon.
"It was a little hectic, a lot of traffic, but it's been worth it because it's always been me and my mother's tradition to do Black Friday," said Black Friday shopper Pamela Campbell.
However, this year was a bit different, with many stores in the Panama City Mall already opening in the afternoon and evening of Thanksgiving day, which made many retailers unsure of what kind of turnout to expect.
"It started out very very well which we were kind of curious to see how it went because every where starts opening this year at different times," said Aeropostale Store Mananger Megan Harper.
Representatives from the Panama City Mall said numbers are up; most of the retailers have surpassed their goals from last year due to Black Friday shoppers.
"For example, Zales last night, they completely surpassed their goal for the entire weekend by 9 o'clock. So I mean I'd say we definitely had a great start to our Black Friday weekend," said Panama City Mall Marketing Director Erin Wommack.
"We get almost everything done on Black Friday, we try to. We're having to pace ourselves but we try to have all ours done on Black Friday," said Campbell.
Although Black Friday can most certainly be hectic, many people said they look forward to it every year.
"I think it's the rush. It's just exciting. This is my 11th year in the store so I've been here forever. It's just a fun night. It goes by so fast, there's always something to do, there's always people that need help," said Harper.
The next shopping holiday for big box stores is Cyber Monday. That's when department store websites are expected to roll out their holiday deals.
