DESTIN, Fla. - A grand jury in Okaloosa County has returned a first-degree murder indictment, prosecutors said in a Monday news release.
William Joffre Reed is now charged with first-degree premeditated murder in the shooting death of Robert Nicholas Mayall.
The shooting occurred in the late evening hours of June 30 at the Harbor View Park in Destin. Investigators say Reed told them he and Mayall went to the park to smoke and he then shot Mayall multiple times "in cold blood" before leaving the scene.
Officials added that Mayall originally attempted to change his appearance before he was caught. He confessed, they added, after confronted with the evidence against him.
