PANAMA CITY, Fla. - The Bay County Chamber of Commerce had a special guest at Friday's monthly First Friday event.
State Senator Jack Latvala (R - Clearwater) spoke to the crowd about the good, the bad and the ugly from this past session.
When asked about goals for the upcoming session, Senator Latvala emphasized the importance of job creation and economic development. He said many counties especially in Northwest Florida are still recovering from the recession.
"We've got to figure out how to help some of those counties. Those counties are particularly out in the Panhandle. All the counties around Panama City, to the East, to the North, to the West, they've all lost jobs. And I think the state needs to do a better job of doing economic development that works in the rural areas as well as the urban areas," said Senator Latvala.
The senator was still coy about a run for governors office, but said he will make an important announcement on August 16th right here in Panama City.
