BAY COUNTY, Fla. - The District 2 seat was previously held by George Gainer for 16 years. He stepped down to become the new state senator for this area.
Local business owner Robert Carroll has been here for 30 years. He ran as a Republican against another long-time Bay County business owner James Morris.
Robert Carroll came out on top with 70 percent of the vote.
Along with friends and family, Carroll celebrated that win at G. Foley's in Panama City.
Carroll said this entire process has been the most humbling experience for him. He said he's been able to meet so many new people and learn a lot about Bay County over the last few months.
Carroll also said he is thankful for his opponent, James Morris, for running such a professional and clean race.
His number one thanks, though, going to all the people who packed the room for him that night.
"This is, it's a big journey and without friends and family it takes an entire village, as the old cliché goes and I'm blessed to have lots of friends, lots of family to help me through all the sign waving, stuffing envelopes, everything that we needed. I'm just so appreciative of the support that I have," said Carroll.
Robert Carroll will be sworn in as a Bay County Commissioner just two weeks from election day and he said he's looking forward to becoming part of the team.
