PANAMA CITY, Fla. - Since March, ridesharig companies like Uber and Lyft have made their way around Bay County. But in the process, they have driven out some business for other transportation companies.
Sunshine Shuttles at Northwest Florida beaches International Airport saw a 40% decrease in their business since the ridesharing companies came to the airport. Other ground transportation companies at the airport also saw reductions in service. In an airport meeting Wednesday morning, the board approved a motion to reduce ground transportation company fees to offset their losses.
"Because they've had a 40% reduction in their business we feel that it's important they have that reduction so that we can ensure that we are able to provide the best level of customer service to our passengers that are arriving and departing from the airport," said Northwest Florida Beaches International Executive Director Parker McClellan.
He said by working as a team, they can continue to provide transportation service for travelers arriving and departing the airport.
