Panama City, FL - A Panama City Navy Diver has been named sailor of the year for naval surface warfare center headquarters.
U.S. Navy Diver First Class Taylor Arney was among 10 naval sea systems command surface warfare center sailors who competed for the distinction.
"Wow, what a huge honor it is to be selected as the NSWC Sailor of the Year," said Arney. "The competition was tough, and I salute all the SOY nominees that competed this year."
Arney's personal decorations consist of the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (seven awards), Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal, among several unit and campaign awards.
Arney currently manages the daily operations of 30 military and civilian divers assigned as the principal activity for research, development, test and evaluation and in-service support to mine warfare systems. He will now compete for national Navsea sailor of the year honors.
