BAY COUNTY, Fl - Bay County gained three new commissioners this election. The newest was recently elected on November 8th and will replace outgoing Commissioner George Gainer.
Robert Carroll won the District Two seat over one opponent. Living in Bay County for about 30 years, Carroll said he wanted to do it for his family.
"If I can make an opportunity for them in the future, then I need to do that for them and for the rest of my friends who have the kids here"
Carroll said the county is also looking at possibly brining the ride sharing service UBER to the area. Several municipalities have already voted to allow the private taxi type service, the county is also reviewing the possibility.
On the issue of the recent voter approved half cent sales tax, Carroll says he is positive the money will be put to good use.
"We have a chance to actually have sidewalks and improve drainage and pave roads, improve the utilities, lots of checks and balances".
The estimated 18-20 million dollars in annual revenue will be shared by all of the seven cities, with oversight committees watching how each city uses the funding. The tax will sunset in ten years.
Robert Carroll will be sworn in to his new post on Tuesday, November 22nd.
