Bay County Commissioner George Gainer is finishing up his last four months on the local board. The Panama City Car Dealer was elected to fill the District Two Senate seat, being vacated by Don Gaetz, who is termed out. Gainer won the post, unopposed in June. Gainer says leaving the commission is bitter sweet. "It was one of the greatest pleasures of my life" Gainer said about serving Bay County. In November, he will be sworn in as a state legislator. Gainer says he is looking forward to putting the spotlight on this area at the state level. "We need to be getting the same shake that everybody else does" Gainer said. His first battle will be to secure dollars from the BP oil spill money. "I think we gotta circle the wagons around the Triumph money, I think that is the future of Northwest Florida and we have to address that, that's got to be our number one on all of our lists" Gainer said. Gainer will finish up as a county commissioner on November 8th and will be sworn in as the Dist. 2 State Senator on November 22nd.
