WALTON COUNTY, Fla. - The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating a deadly wreck involving a single semi-truck in Walton County.
Troopers said Carleton Ziegler, 45, of Orlando was driving a semi-truck eastbound on Interstate 10 around 10:30 a.m. Saturday when he drifted off the road near the Ponce de Leon exit.
The truck hit several trees in the center wooded median and caught fire, according to troopers.
Ziegler was transported to Bay Medical Center via ShandsCair helicopter in critical condition.
His passenger Obenson Etienne, 37, of Orlando was pronounced dead on scene.
Troopers shut down the left eastbound lane for 12 hours as they investigated and cleared the scene.
