Franklin County, Fla. - One person was killed after a boating incident Tuesday afternoon.
Franklin County Sheriff's deputies wrote in a news release that they responded to a boat in distress on the Eastpoint side of the John Gorrie Memorial Causeway.
Two men were struggling to swim toward land as efforts from FCSO, FWC, Franklin Detention Officers and civilians were actively pursuing the water to perform a rescue.
"Despite the tremendous outpouring of help, one man was pronounced deceased after extensive CPR," officials wrote.
After a long night of recovery, the other victim has been reported as stable.
"The FCSO would like to thank everyone who responded to this unfortunate situation," they added. "Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of the two men."
