MARIANNA, Fla. - Something happened in Marianna Wednesday that hasn't happened in 35 years.
Local leaders broke ground on a new car dealership.
"This is so excited for our little town and we're so proud to be a part of it," said Miller & Miller Nissan Car Dealer Ricky Miller.
Community and automotive industry leaders joined car Miller and his family on what will be the new Miller & Miller Nissan dealership.
"It's about a $5-million dollar project. It's going to create 40 plus good paying jobs."
The new business will be located on this 4-acre site off Highway 90, a few miles East of Downtown Marianna.
Miller is partnering with his son Dustin.
The showroom is the latest design from Nissan and will be the only one of it's kind in Northwest Florida.
"We've been planning this for ten years and finally God has answered our prayers," said Ricky.
State Sen. George Gainer (R) Dist. 2, attended the event.
Gainer knows a bit about the impact car dealerships have on a community, he owns several.
"Modern car dealerships kind of indicate the modern growth factor...It's just another degree of confidence and Jackson County is growing, there's no doubt about that. This is going to be a great spot," said Gainer.
Miller currently sells nNissans from a lot next to his other dealership which sells Chevrolets, Buicks, GMC's and Cadillacs.
He hopes the new Nissan dealership will provide opportunities for future generations.
"We have some wonderful students here, we got a beautiful college here and we don't have no jobs for them to come back to. We really need to work on getting jobs in this county," said Miller.
The dealership should open within a year.
Jackson County's last new car dealership was Marianna Toyota, owned by Miller's good friend George Garcia.
