Jackson County residents celebrated with a round of applause during Tuesday's board of commissioners meeting.
"I do want to thank the community for supporting this," said District 3 Commissioner Chuck Lockey.
This is after the board approved a New Dollar General store on Sweet Pond Road and Highway 69.
Nearby Dellwood resident Annie Cobb said she has to drive 9 miles to get to a nearby grocery store.
She said now, the store will be a shorter trip and it could help the town's economy.
"It could get jobs, people need jobs. There may not be teens. It may just be other people that need jobs and this will be effective in giving people jobs," said Cobb.
Dellwood resident Rett Daniels says there's more in store.
"There are many items that will be in Dollar General that aren't available at the gas station, as well as more hours that will be open as opposed to the gas station," said Rett Daniels.
However, there has been some opposition.
"There were thoughts that it would be somewhat intrusive to the neighboring homeowners," said Daniels.
The Roberts family reached out to the county board after learning the new store would be across the street.
According to the developer the family reached an agreement that a fence will be built around their home.
They also deeded over a road in front of their home.
"And maybe with this Dollar General Store, it might invite other businesses to come in," said Cobb.
The new Dollar General store is expected to open next year.
