Murder Suspect Says Victim Asked Him to Kill

Panama City Beach, Fla. - A local man was arrested in connection to a homicide at the Coconut Grove Motor Inn on Front Beach Road, Panama City Beach.

Deputies responded to the motel Thursday afternoon around 4:35 pm and found the body of Gerald Richard Breen, Jr. in a room. Breen, 36, had been living in the room and had a man staying with him.

The man was identified as Rex Drew Stewart, 26, of 1147 Katherine, in Callaway, officials wrote in a news release.

When deputies located him Stewart said he killed Breen because Breen asked him to. Stewart said that on Thursday he used a commando-style hand saw to choke Breen after the two men argued and Stewart became angry enough to carry out Breen's request.

Investigators found the hand saw in the room.

Stewart was charged with an open count of murder.

The body has been turned over to the Medical Examiner's Office for autopsy.
