MEXICO BEACH, Fla. - A motorcyclist struck a bear as it ran across the highway in Mexico Beach Friday.
The accident happened at about 10:15 a.m. on U.S. 98 near the city's visitor center. Chief Anthony Kelly said the motorcyclist was in good condition and said his helmet probably saved his life.
The cub ran back into the woods after being struck. The accident is under investigation.
Bears are a common sight along Mexico Beach and nearby Tyndall Air Force Base.
