BAY COUNTY, Fla. - A case of mistaken identity leads Bay County Sheriff's Deputies to arrest the wrong man... but actually, the right man.
A BCSO deputy saw a person matching the description of an armed robbery suspect in Panama City Beach. When approached, the suspect fled on a bicycle. Richard Tipton took off on his bike to escape authorities then ditched the bike and swam into the gulf to avoid detection.
Turns out, Tipton was not the suspect they were looking for in the armed robbery case but he did have multiple warrants out for his arrest. The warrants were for burglary to a vehicle and dealing in stolen property. Officers dove in the water and swam after Tipton and he was arrested late Tuesday night.
While this was happening, Panama City Beach Police located and arrested the armed robbery suspect. That suspect was a juvenile and is in custody facing possible charges.
