Mexico Beach Artificial Reef Association's 19th Annual Kingfish Tournament

MEXICO BEACH, Fla - Kings took over Mexico Beach on Saturday for the 19th Annual Kingfish Tournament.

"This time we had 154 boats and we have lots and lots of people all over the place. As you can see boats are coming in everywhere and you got some of the biggest fish you'll ever see if your life," Tournament Director, Ron Childs said.

A fishing tournament that benefits marine life.

"Ultimately used for, 96 cents out of every dollar we raise goes to building artificial reefs," Mexico Beach Artificial Reef Association President, Bob Coz said.

The proceeds from the Kingfish tournaments have allowed the MBARA to build more than 200 artificial reefs.

"We also have a new project coming up under the Nerta phase 3 where we have been allotted 1.4 million dollars and we're going to build 60 new reefs with that," Cox added.

But this tournament isn't about the competition.

"We try to make it a fun experience and so family this is a family oriented experience and we just want people to have a good time," Childs said.

Family fun that brings so many people to Mexico Beach.

"I think it's that it brings so much to Mexico Beach, there is such great reefs to fish off here and it just brings the whole community together," Miss Kingfish Allison Hudson said.

Childs says they are already planning for next year, as Guy Harvey will be designing a one of a kind shirt for the 20th Annual Kingfish Tournament.
