Local Memorial to be Held for Fallen Kissimmee Officers

PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. - A local woman is planning a memorial in Panama City Beach to honor two Central Florida police officers who were killed in the line of duty.

Mariah Hobbs' father David Dey retired from the Kissimmee Police Department about a year ago then relocated to Bay County.

While Dey worked for the agency for 27 years, he formed a friendship with Officer Matt Baxter and Sgt. Richard "Sam" Howard. The officers were shot and killed while responding to a call last Friday night.

Dey is unable to travel to attend the funerals so Hobbs said she wanted to host an event for her dad and others in the community to honor the officers.

The memorial will be held Friday night at Frank Brown Park. Hobbs said they will start gathering at the pavilions near the back of the park around 7:00 p.m.
