PANAMA CITY, Fla. - As we know, October is breast cancer awareness month. A local man made it his mission to dress gulf coast medical center in pink each October. News 13's Alex Thorson reports the bright pink theme is not a sight you can miss.
Twenty four hours a day during the month, Gulf Coast Regional Medical Center displays pink.
"My part is just a small part," John Mondini, an employee said.
Mondini works for the hospital. No, he's not a paid decorator.
"I'm an electrician here at the hospital," he said.
Three years ago, hospital employees told Mondini they wished the hospital could look like the White House when it's lit in pink.
"I said, well I'll give it a shot."
What started as an idea became his hobby.
"I do it during work and then after hours on my own time," Mondini said.
He has big plans for the future.
"My final goal would be to have the entire hospital pink."
Mondini said the reactions from people of the community make the weeks of decorating all worth it.
"So anybody driving by, who may not have been in the hospital, knows that we care about breast cancer awareness," Mondini said.
Breast cancer awareness lasts the entire month of October.
Gulf Coast Medical says they will host an honorable breast cancer awareness dance at the end of the month.
