HOLMES COUNTY, Fla. - The Pensacola man convicted of a double murder in Holmes County will likely spend the rest of his life in prison
Joshua Gaskey, 30, was facing the death penalty, but the jury recommended life in prison without parole after hearing nearly ten hours of testimony in a sentencing hearing Saturday
Gaskey was convicted for shooting Glen and Jackie Brooks, along with burglary and robbery of prescription pills at their home on the night of April 18, 2015.
The victims' family who attended every day of the trial and sentencing hearing said the outcome will help them begin to heal.
"There are no winners today," the couple's daughter DeeDee Brooks said. "Nothing can bring our parents back, but I do believe justice was served, and I am pleased that he will not be able to hurt another family."
The jury's vote was simply a recommendation. The judge is expected to officially sentence Gaskey next week.
