BAY COUNTY, Fla. - A company founded five years ago in San Francisco has made it's way to the Panhandle. "Instacart" is a grocery delivery service that connects you with a personal shopper who buys your groceries and delivers them right to your doorstep. For those who aren't fond of grocery shopping or just don't have the time, this service could be the solution.
Grocery shopping is not exactly everyone's favorite chore, but with Instacart's grocery delivery service, you may never have to step foot in a supermarket again. Instacart is run through an app that is compatible with IOS and Android devices but if you do not have a smartphone, you can also order through their website.
"They pick a store and then they go into the app and decide what items they want. They go to put that all into their virtual cart and then they proceed to checkout and say what time they'd like to have that deliver. On the shopper side, that shopper receives the order in their phone wherever they are in our area, the closest shopper goes right to that store, shops for all the items in the app, heads to checkout then goes to the customers house" said Instacart Operations Manager, Jack Butler.
Instacart makes sure the shopper gets the correct product by scanning each item before placing it in the cart and does all your shopping in as little as one hour. The delivery fee is $5.99 for all orders over $35 and $9.99 for all orders under $35.
"Instacart has a little bit of something for everybody, whether it's busy professionals who just want a couple hours back in their day, there's a big senior community out here that we're very happy to help out, and there's also just a lot of busy parents as there are everywhere that are just trying to get more time with their families" said Butler.
To launch it here in the Panhandle, Instacart is offering it's "Instacart Express" membership program, which entitles you to free delivery for a year. After that first year, the delivery fee becomes $14.99 per month or up to $149 for the year, both for unlimited deliveries. The offer ends August 2nd.
Along with Publix Supermarkets, Instacart has partnerships with Whole Foods and ABC Wine and Spirits.
