Panama City, Fla. - A Bay County jail inmate was critically injured in what appears to be an altercation with another inmate, Bay County Sheriff's officials said Thursday.
The incident happened at about 6 pm. Wednesday. Both inmates had received disciplinary sanctions and were being housed in a segregation unit.
"When a detention officer entered the area to do the scheduled security check, Deanthony Marshun Dinkins, 19, was banging on the cell door to get the immediate attention of the Officer," officials wrote. "When the Officer went to the door, Dinkins said, 'You have to get me out of here.'"
However, Dinkins was uninjured. His cellmate, 20-year-old, Jordan Laron Whitsett, was lying on the top bunk and appeared to be injured.
Medical attention was given in the jail to Whitsett until EMS arrived and transported him to a local hospital. He remains in the hospital in critical condition, officials wrote.
Investigators are conferring with the State Attorney's Office and charges on Dinkins are forthcoming, they added.
The show will be at the AMIkids building on 200 East Beach Drive.
