Immigration Agency Protecting Americans While Helping Those Seeking Citizenship

PANAMA CITY, Fla. - A spokesperson for the U.S Citizen and Immigration Services wants Americans to know how immigration agencies work.

Pamela Wilson said her agency works to protect the American people while helping people become legal residents.

The federal agency facilitates the lawful immigration process in the country.

Wilson encourages educators to teach how the process works in schools.

She said people sometimes confuse the agency with the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement or '"ICE".

"ICE" is a law enforcement agency that works to detain those illegal in the United States.

"We are the ones who make sure that they can read, write, and speak English. We do the things like fingerprinting them, background checks, we do all kinds of things to insure that the people coming into our country are not going to propose a long term risk of any kind," Wilson said.

She also said that those seeking citizenship need to be wary of scammers. She recommends people get their information from their website:
